Exhibition
Anette Gellein
Backdrop!
Studio17 is thrilled to have Anette Gellein opening a new exhibition season with a solo show titled «Backdrop!». Gellerin is currently having a three-week-long residency period at the gallery, during which she is developing the textile works that will be exhibited.
Anette Gellein (from Sola) often works with immersive installations, the individual elements of which are comprised of multiple media, such as video, audio, writing, drawing, and performance. Thematically the core of her practice if formed by thinking about the body as the framework through which one can perceive, imagine and engage with the environment. The body, as Gellein regards it, is to be seen from a political, philosophical and historical vantage point without forgetting the context which it is situated in i.e. the surroundings, environment and landscape.
In 2019 Gellein graduated with a Master’s degree from the Glasgow School of Art, specialising in performance. Previously she has studied in the Nordland Art and Film school and the Tromsø Academy of Contemporary Art, from where she obtained, in 2017, a Bachelor’s degree in Contemporary Art.
