Event
Open Call 2024
Studio17 is an independent venue for contemporary art in Stavanger, run by visual artists and cultural workers on a voluntary basis. Since its inception in 2013, our exhibition space at Nytorget has hosted over 200 art and cultural events. From January 2024, we will be moving into exciting new premises at Øvre Strandgate 66 in Old Stavanger, complete with an artist apartment* provided by the Stavanger Municipality.
In connection with this, Studio17 invites all interested individuals to apply for our new program, Studio17 Residency. We wish to emphasize collaboration in our new residency program by inviting 2 artists to share a 3-week stay in the artist apartment and our new venue. Applicants can either submit an individual application or apply as a duo.
During the residency, we encourage artists to organize an exhibition, showcase work-in-progress, conduct a workshop, or similar activities. An artist presentation is also an integral part of the stay in Stavanger.
Who Can Apply?
Artists and cultural workers who wish to develop a project alongside other applicants in Stavanger and Studio17’s new exhibition space in Old Stavanger. We welcome applications that present either a concrete project or an artistic practice.

Practical Information
The outcome of the artist residency will be presented in our exhibition space at the conclusion of the residency, and the timing of this is determined by the applicants themselves. Studio17 Residency will assist in promoting the residency and associated events, as well as offering technical support and photo documentation through our regular collaborators. One of our board members will support selected artists and serve as a contact person and host during the residency.
Studio17 offers a fixed fee of 10,000 NOK per exhibition. In addition, travel expenses up to 2,500 NOK per exhibition and material costs up to 2,500 NOK per exhibition are covered. Rental expenses for the artist’s apartment are included for those selected for Studio17 Residency.
