Studio17 is an independent exhibition space for contemporary art in Stavanger. Established in 2013, it is run by cultural workers primarily on voluntary basis. The gallery is located in Øvre Strandgate 66.
We exhibit artists both in the beginning of their career as well as established artists who seek to test out new ideas. Around half of the projects that we present come from our Open Call for Residency, which is announced twice a year. The invited artists have responsibility for their projects, with the help of Studio17’s board. Additionally we host, among other things, reading groups, publication releases, and screenings. Studio17 strives to be an engaging and social meeting place for contemporary art in the city. Collaboration with local actors is therefore of high importance to us.
The board of Studio17 consists of Espen Pedersen, Veslemøy Flotve, Alice Darby, Helene Espedal-Selvåg, Jone Tou and Espen Birkedal..
Studio17 is supported by the Arts Council Norway, City of Stavanger, and Rogaland Art Center.
