Event
Open Call 2026
Studio17 is an independent venue for contemporary art in Stavanger, run by visual artists voluntarily. Since its inception in 2013, Studio17 has hosted over 200 art and cultural events. In January 2024, we moved into exciting new premises at Øvre Strandgate 66 in Old Stavanger, complete with an Artist apartment * provided by the Stavanger Municipality.
In connection with this, Studio17 invites all interested individuals to apply for Studio17 Residency. We wish to emphasize collaboration in our residency program by inviting 2 artists to share a 4-week stay in the artist apartment and our venue in 2026. Applicants can either submit an individual application or apply as a duo.
During the residency, we encourage artists to organize an exhibition, showcase work-in-progress, conduct a workshop, or similar activities.

During the residency
Artists are invited to engage with their practice and the Stavanger context. While a finished artwork is not required, we value openness, curiosity, and a willingness to share works-in-progress, supporting dialogue with the public and the local community. The residency provides a space for, not only focused work, but also meaningful exchanges—a place for artists to connect with the location, the city, and its residents. We appreciate gestures of sharing, such as open studio exhibitions, where the work, at stages, can be made visible, audible, or accessible to the public, offering moments of shared discovery.
Practical Information
The outcome of the artist residency will be presented in our exhibition space at the conclusion of the residency, and the timing of this is determined by the applicants themselves. Studio17 Residency will assist in promoting the residency and associated events, as well as offering technical support and photo documentation through our regular collaborators. One of our board members will support selected artists and serve as a contact person and host during the residency.
Studio 17 provides free accommodation for the artist and a fixed artist fee of 15,000 NOK, inclusive of travel and all other related costs.
