Sarah Fjørtoft

Forgetmenot

30.03. – 02.04.2023

In connection with Sarah Fjørtoft’s artist residency at Studio17, we welcome you to the exhibition “Forgetmenot” on Thursday 30.03.

The work presented is part of a series the artist started working on in 2019 and further developed during the three-week stay at studio17. Through various approaches and photographic techniques, the human subconscious reaction to death is explored as our only given fact. Our deep urge to preserve youth and life is contrasted with the realities of nature; the inevitable impermanence of the individual.

Sarah Fjørtoft is a Norwegian photoartist mainly based in Stavanger, with connections to Cape Town, South Africa. She combines her education in art and photography with a deep interest in the underlying in people and society to create thought-provoking work that explores the subconscious aspects of the human mind.

During her stay, she holds various rituals and happenings where the intention is to further explore the theme of her artistic practice, share this exploration with the public and prepare the energy in the space where she works and exhibits.
