Guro Rex

Heksagon med en tampong

26.05. – 28.05.2017

Guro Rex is the first artist on residency at Studio17! On Friday, Rex presents new work produced during her stay here. Rex has worked with food, textiles, video and performance.

ABOUT THE MINI RESIDENCY

Studio17 has created an artist residency for local artists. The purpose of the residency is to give artists connected to Stavanger a room to produce new works in or to experiment outside our ordinary display format.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Guro Rex (b.1995) is a Stavanger based artist originally from the Helgeland coast in Nordland. Rex graduated from Kunstskolen i Rogaland in the fall of 2016 and has since participated in several exhibitions in Stavanger. She has also been the curator of the group exhibitions Sex, Drugs and Friends in Superstar Collective (2016) and Urom (2017).

Rex’s artistic process is based on the relationships with the people around her and feminine role models. Her practice works both autobiographically and therapeutically, in this way, psychology and astrology become tools. Materials such as textiles, food and readymades are central to her sculptural and performance works.

After finishing Kunstskolen i Rogaland, Rex has used her bedroom in Superstar Collective as a studio. For the past two weeks, Studio17 was her work space, this included a May 17th concert with her band Skitzosatan.
