5119 km til Nina
As a textile artist, I often use textiles in combination with sculpture and installation. I want to break with the traditional perception of textile art.
In this project, I use stories and memories from when I was little. Nina is my oldest sister, she moved to the US when I was 7 years old. The project is an attempt to get to know and keep in touch with a family member living across the globe.
The exhibition has gradually become an attempt to illustrate what missing is. In one of the works I count the days since I last saw my sister, in another I try to crochet the distance between us. The works in the exhibition have, for me, become a way of creating what is not visible.
My work is often about time. Time now, the time to come and the time that has just passed. Ironically, all the techniques I work with are very time-consuming. The repetitive work however also becomes a form of meditation.
